Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans: Titans look to seal the top spot with the win
Coming into the final leg of the league stage, we have reached the last double-header day as well of this season
First up, we have match number 62 to witness a clash between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. While the fate of both the teams for playoffs qualification has been decided, with Titans being the first team to qualify and Super Kings knocked out of the race, the win in this match will help GT seal a spot in the Top 2.
Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans have shown excellent cricketing spirit throughout the tournament. Their never-say-die attitude has been the most impressive. Their bowling unit is amazing, and they had pictured it in their previous match when, without Lockie Ferguson's services, they managed to defend a modest total of 144. Their batting unit looks decent with certain areas to improve, but they have managed reasonably well to pull off stellar chases. Fans would love to see skipper Hardik Pandya in his form, which they could have glimpsed in the first few matches only. They might try some other player in place of Matthew Wade, who hasn't been able to fire from his bat yet.
On the flip side, Chennai Super Kings have nothing to lose and will look to improve their performance. The inclusion of Devon Conway has brought them stability at the top order. Despite their batting failure in the previous match, they have managed to find the right combinations by the end of the season and will work on it for next season. In the absence of Deepak Chahar, powerplay bowling was a primary concern for the team but now, with Mukesh Choudhary bowling well, things look good for the team. With just a couple of matches remaining for them, they will look to focus on players they have ticked down for next season.
Players to watch out for
Batters: Devon Conway and Shubman Gill
Currently, Devon Conway is in great form and has scored 231 runs in just five matches at an average of 57. The Southpaw will look to put up another big performance. Shubman Gill played a quality knock in the last game and looked to be in great touch with the bat carrying a strike rate of 137 and an average of 34.
Bowlers: Mukesh Choudhary and Rashid Khan
Mukesh Choudhary has been exceptional, with the new ball having 16 wickets in 11 matches, of which three were picked in the previous game to defend a meager total. Rashid Khan is a magical spinner and comes in handy with the bat at the lower order. He has been economical throughout, with 15 wickets in 12 matches.
Stats to keep an eye on
- Hardik Pandya averages 55 and strikes at 149 against Dwayne Bravo in the T20s.
- Gujarat Titans have hit a total of 58 sixes this season, the least by a team.
- This season, Mukesh Choudhary has taken 11 wickets in the powerplay, the highest among all the teams.
With never giving up attitude and nothing to lose, Chennai Super Kings can turn to dangerous opponents. They can even look to avenge their previous loss against Gujarat Titans when David Miller put up a killer show. It will be Hardik Pandya vs MS Dhoni's captaincy tonight at Wankhede in the cracking contest.
