Chennai Super Kings outplay Delhi Capitals to register a massive 91-runs victory
Chennai Super Kings on Sunday created a spectacle against opponents Delhi Capitals as they defeated them by 91 runs
Delhi Capitals were helpless in the first half as Chennai's latest find Devon Conway smashed yet another half-century. Together with Ruturaj Gaikwad, they set the foundation of their 200-runs plus total.
In reply, the Delhi Capitals' batting line-up submitted in front of the returning Moeen Ali and Mukesh Choudhary. Nobody in the Delhi camp scored more than 30 runs as they were bowled out in the eighteenth over for just 117 runs.
Devon Conway proves he is the perfect replacement for Faf du Plessis.
Chennai Super Kings were sent in to bat first after Delhi Capitals won the toss at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway opened for the Chennai Super Kings and set up a great opening partnership. Ruturaj Gaikwad blasted four boundaries and 1 six in his 33-balls 41 and took his side to a humongous score of 110 runs before being caught out in the eleventh over.
Devon Conway was in his zone and continued his onslaught with Shivam Dube. The South African hit seven boundaries and five sixes to take his score to 87 run off 49 balls, his third consecutive half-century at IPL 2022.
Conway and Dube added 59 runs to the scoreboard until Conway played a lazy shot on a slower one by Khaleel Ahmed and gave a catch to Rishabh Pant behind him.
Shivam Dube was also removed in the next over for 32 off 19, and Ambati Rayudu followed in the nineteenth over. However, MS Dhoni came to the crease with 200 plus total in his mind and clobbered 21 off just eight balls with the help of a boundary and two sixes.
Chennai Super Kings make quick work of Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals sent David Warner and Srikar Bharat to bat first. Delhi started slow and gave Chennai their first breakthrough in the second over as the newcomer Bharat departed for just eight runs.
The magical Australian David Warner also looked helpless in front of Chennai as Maheesh Theekasana caught Warner's leg before the wicket in the fifth over. Warner was sent back to the dugout with only 19 runs to his name.
Mitchell Marsh and captain Rishabh Pant tried to accelerate Delhi's innings and began shooting boundaries all over the ground. And when it looked like Delhi had found their momentum back, Moeen Ali showed his skills and removed Marsh from the crease with a full-length delivery.
Marsh departed while Delhi were 72/1 with 25 runs to his name. Captain Rishabh Pant could not find his flow back and was bowled out by Moeen Ali in the tenth over.
Delhi's batsman kept coming and going until the required run-rate shot through the roof. Shardul Thakur (24 off 19) tried to play sensibly and scored the second-highest score for his team. However, that wasn't enough to rescue Delhi from its slump.
The whole batting line-up was wrapped up by the eighteenth over with just 117 runs to show as their side lost by a 91 runs margin.
With eight points from 11 games, the Chennai Super Kings can earn up to 14 points if they win their final three games, but unfortunately, that won't be enough to qualify for the play-offs.
For the Delhi Capitals to qualify, they need to win all three remaining games and also expect a few other results to go their way.
