Chennai outclasses Bangalore to register their first win of the season
The Chennai Super Kings have finally broken their losing streak in 2022 with a dominant victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The Super Kings had previously lost four back-to-back matches and now finally managed to defeat the Royal Challengers Bangalore to hand the Faf du Plessis led to their second loss of the season.
Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa go on a rampage
Faf du Plessis, the former Chennai Super Kings player leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore this season, asked Chennai to bat first after winning the toss.
However, this did not end up nicely for the South African as Chennai put on a mammoth target of 217 runs for Bangalore to chase, thanks to Shivam Dube's superb knock of 96* and Robin Uthappa's fantastic innings of 88 runs.
The defending champion blasted the Royal Challengers Bangalore after their opener, Rituraj Gaikwad (17) and Moeen Ali (3), were ousted quickly from the pitch in under 7 overs.
Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube took it upon themselves to take their team to this season's highest score as they made a mockery of Bangalore's bowlers.
Chennai, who were 36/2 just after the power play, hammered 17 sixes in their innings to cruise past 200 runs. Dube and Uthappa hit 8 and 9 sixes respectively to form a marvelous third-wicket partnership of 165 runs to make it happen.
Skipper Ravindra Jadeja also came to bat after Uthappa was caught in the 19th over by Virat Kohli. However, he couldn't even get off the mark as he met the same fate on the next ball. This dismissal brought former captain MS Dhoni, to partner with Shivam Dube, who took the strike in the last over.
This great inning by Shivam Dube has moved the youngster to second place in IPL 2022's Orange Cap list.
Chennai Super Kings' bowlers give trouble to RCB's batting line-up
After putting up a humongous target for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Chennai Super Kings didn't forget to showcase their power with the bowl.
Chennai were able to find success early as they snuck out the wicket of the skipper, du Plessis, in the 3rd over for only 8 runs. Former captain Virat Kohli also followed suit in the 15th over as he was caught by none other than Shivam Dube for only a single run.
Opener Anuj Rawat(12) couldn't stay on the crease for long as he was LBWed by Maheesh Theekshana at the end of the powerplay. Although Glenn Maxwell tried to bring Bangalore back in the game with a quick 26, it wasn't enough to stop the fall of wickets as he went back to the pavilion in the next over.
Shahbaz Ahmed and S.Prabhudessai held their own for quite some time and formed a brilliant partnership of 60 runs. This partnership was then complemented by Dinesh Karthik, who scored a quick knock of 34 runs to bring back Bangalore's chances of winning.
However, after Karthik's dismissal, the lower order couldn't chase the target in the death overs.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore will now look to come back to the winning column against Delhi Capitals on the 16th of April. At the same time, the Chennai Super Kings try to form a winning streak by defeating the Gujarat Titans the next day.
