Bowlers with the best economy rate in IPL 2022
Economic bowling means a lot in tournaments like IPL, where you have just 20 overs to play
An economy average of 6 runs per over is also considered as good. Here is the list of the top 5 best bowlers in IPL 2022 concerning bowling economy in an inning/ match, and it’s like a miracle. It gives me immense pleasure to see the top 4 are Indian bowlers on this list.
Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians)
He is a bowler with a unique action, making him hard to understand by most batters. In a match played against Kolkata Knight Riders at DY Patil Stadium on 9th May 2022, Bumrah gave only ten runs in his spell of 4 overs. Besides being economical, he also took five wickets in the same match. He bowled 18 of the 24 balls as dot balls (which is the 3rd highest dot balls by any bowler in an inning of IPL 2022). Five-wicket haul in 4 overs is a colossal figure in a limited over the tournament.
Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals)
On 20th April 2022, Axar Patel amazed all with his bowling. He gave just ten runs in his spell of 4 overs, consisting of 14 dots. He single-handedly managed to thrash Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium. Not only this, but Axar Patel also scalped two crucial wickets in the form of Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma to break the backbone of the opponents. He has emerged as an upcoming all-rounder in a very short period. The economy rate of 2.50 is the best in IPL 2022, and it means a lot in a 20-over inning.
Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Just one day after Krunal Pandya’s best bowling analysis, on 30th March 2022, he became the 2nd bowler in the history of IPL to bowl two maiden overs out of his quota of four in an inning. This achievement came at DY Patil Stadium against Kolkata Knight Riders. He made his position at number 3, only because he missed by one run to give an edge to Jasprit Bumrah, placed at number 1. In this match, he conceded just 11 runs in 4 overs and grabbed two wickets also. Not only this, he released 19 balls in which the scoreboard remained unchanged. His stats surprised Kolkata Knight Riders and ensured the downfall of the opponents.
Krunal Pandya (Lucknow Super Giants)
On 29th April 2022, Krunal Pandya came up with his best bowling figure in IPL 2022. He just managed to give only 11 runs in 4 overs. He accounted for 15 dot balls in his inning, taking him to the number 4 position on this list. It happened in the match against Punjab Kings at Maharashtra Cricket Association Ground. Krunal Pandya, a left-arm orthodox bowler, achieved it against the strongest power-hitters. This season, he emerged as a good batsman, making him a perfect all-rounder.
Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders)
He has surprised the batters in all formats of cricket. His bowling action seems very simple, but the balls are hard to play. He comes at No. 5 on this list. He conceded just 12 runs in his four overs and scalped one wicket. The bowler bowled 13 dot balls in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at DY Patil Stadium on 30th March 2022, making his bowling economy of 3.00 runs per over. Sunil Narine dismissed David Willey in that match when the latter came under intense pressure (for scoring just 18 runs off 28 balls). The importance of Sunil Narine’s performance can be easily understood by the fact that in the same match, Andre Russell, the premium bowler, had distributed an economy of 15.42 to his opponents (More than five times that of Sunil Narine). They achieved a remarkable achievement on the same day!
