Big Bash League: Usman Khawaja hits half-ton in Brisbane Heat victory
Captain Usman Khawaja notched a half-century as Brisbane Heat advanced through to the Big Bash League final three with a seven-wicket victory over Melbourne Renegades.
The Heat will face Sydney Sixers on Thursday for a chance to play Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash final.
Renegades opening batter Shaun Marsh impressed with an unbeaten 82 from 53 deliveries and set the Heat 163 for victory.
Khawaja was quick to get Brisbane's reply in swing as he hit five fours in the opening powerplay, taking them to 40 from the first five overs.
Fellow opener Josh Brown wanted to make an impression of his own and slapped four maximums in his 27 ball 39, as they put 75 runs on for the first-wicket stand.
Marnus Labuschagne added 23 to the scoreboard, but two wickets in the power surge courtesy of Tom Rogers ensured two new batters were at the crease, as Khawaja was shortly followed his Test compatriot.
Heat needed 34 from the last four overs but in-form Matthew Renshaw eased them home with a score of 27 from 13 deliveries and earned victory with seven balls to spare.
