Big Bash League: Perth Scorchers beat Melbourne Renegades - Game highlights
Nic Maddinson's suspected severe knee injury has added to the Melbourne Renegades' woes after a fourth straight loss to BBL. The Renegades conceded a five-point defeat to the red-hot Perth Scorchers at Marvel Stadium on Sunday
Aaron Finch's 65 runs (48) took the home side to 155 for six from 20 overs, while the Scorchers' speedy AJ Tye took 3 for 32 to keep the hosts at bay. However, Josh Inglis and Cameron Bancroft got the Scorchers over the line in a controlled recovery.
The Scorchers reached the target despite the efforts of the Renegades' speedy Kane Richardson with two balls to go. It was the fourth win in a row for the Scorchers as they consolidated their place at the top of the table.
Maddinson's losing streak continued as he was out for a first-ball and scored a total of just three runs in his final five innings. His day got worse when he injured his knee while fielding in the Scorchers' second over, twisting his left leg as he turned to throw the ball.
The 31-year-old immediately slumped to the turf and was examined for several minutes before being taken off the field. The extent of the injury is not yet known with the Renegades, and Maddinson will be sent for tests.
Wicketkeeper Peter Handscomb was also unable to complete the match and was substituted after 16 overs as he struggled with the effects of the high temperatures.
Import openers Faf du Plessis and Bancroft gave the Scorchers a solid foundation to build.
Richardson came close to a hat-trick when he removed Adam Lyth with the last ball of an over and du Plessis with the first ball of another around, but he could not complete the feat.
Will Sutherland ran out of Bancroft, but Inglis took the reins and took his side to the brink of victory.
Inglis unsuccessfully appealed an lbw decision and was run out before Nick Hobson scored the decisive run against Sutherland.
Earlier, Finch became the second player to score 3000 runs in his career in the BBL, replacing the previous record holder Chris Lynn. Tye was the Scorchers' top bowler, taking the all-important wickets of Finch, Handscomb and Mackenzie Harvey. Jason Behrendorff also bowled superbly, taking 1 for 17 from four overs.
