The Hobart Hurricanes overcame a brutal blow from resurgent Big Bash League campaigner Chris Lynn to earn a crucial win over the Adelaide Strikers.

Lynn scored 87 runs from 58 balls Monday night at Blundstone Arena, his highest score of the summer, while the Strikers were 6-77.

Magnificent win for Brentford, who have still never lost an EPL game when they've scored first. Thomas Frank got tactics spot on. With this innings, Lynn is the tournament's leading scorer, but it was not enough to beat the Hurricanes, who responded in kind.

Openers Caleb Jewell (54 off 28 balls) and Ben McDermott (53 off 33) got the chase to a flying start with 86 runs off 49 balls.

Jewell, named player of the match, opened ahead of Matthew Wade and D'Arcy Short.

He hit four sixes, including one-off gun spinner Rashid Khan (1-43 off four overs), which was unusually expensive.

Short and Tim David remained unbeaten on 27 to take the Hurricanes to 3-178 with 16 balls to spare.

Jewell was a late substitute after Shadab Khan was out with a finger problem.

With the win, their third in six games, the Hurricanes moved to the top of the table.

On the other hand, the Strikers have lost four straight after a 3-0 start to the tournament.

Lynn, released by the Brisbane Heat in the preseason, hit nine boundaries and three sixes after the Strikers won the coin toss and elected to bat.

He was beaten by Jewell in the final over of the game with a sharp outfield catch off young seamer Mitch Owen.

Lynn shared a 72-run partnership with Matthew Short (38 off 26 balls) after Henry Hunt was out early as the opener.

The 14th over was particularly productive for them, yielding 16 runs.

Lynn added to his tally in the closing stages with New Zealand international Colin de Grandhomme (30 off 18 balls) making a brief appearance.

Spinner Patrick Dooley was the Hurricanes' most economical bowler, scoring 25 runs in his four overs and dismissing Adam Hose.

The Strikers, without the tournament's leading wicket-taker Henry Thornton, could have an injury problem as Peter Siddle is bowling in pain.

Player of the match: Caleb Jewell was named man of the game. He scored 54 batting from 28 balls with a strike rate of 192.86
