Batsmen with two or more centuries in a single season of IPL
In a prestigious tournament like the Indian Premier League, where the competition is very high, scoring a century is considered a huge milestone. While many greats of the game have failed to do so, others have scored more than one century in a single season.
Only six people in the history of IPL have even been able to do so, which shows that these players must have a calibre of a different level than others in the shorter format of the game. Let's have a look at all of them in detail.
Jos Buttler (2022)
The most recent addition to this list is the renowned English opener who has shocked everyone with his batting ability as he has managed to score three centuries in just seven matches of the season so far. He is the highest run-scorer as of now and most probably will end up winning the orange cap.
The England opener is performing up to his standard, and it won't be much of a surprise if he manages to equal (or break) Virat Kohli's record of most centuries in a season.
Shikhar Dhawan (2020)
The Indian white-ball opener Shikhar Dhawan has been showing enormous form since 2020 in the Indian Premier League. In the same season, he joined the elite list as he went on to score two centuries in consecutive matches.
The opener always gave Delhi Capitals a good start and is making sure to do so for his current franchise Punjab Kings too.
Shane Watson (2018)
Shane Watson hammered his second century of the 2018 Indian Premier League as Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final by his masterpiece.
The Chennai Super Kings chased down the 179-run target set by SRH in the summit showdown at the Wankhede Stadium, inspired by opener Watson, who got off the mark on the 11th delivery he faced in the final.
Watson was cautious at first but quickly turned the tables on the bowlers with a blitzkrieg of 11 fours and eight sixes.
Hashim Amla (2017)
After having decent performance in IPL 2016, Hashim Amla didn't look back. In the very next season, he continued his form and went on to score two centuries in IPL 2017. He was a match-winner for his franchise, Kings XI Punjab, in 2017.
Hashim Amla scored 420 runs in 10 innings of IPL 2017 at an average of 60 and a strike rate of 145.83.
Virat Kohli (2016)
Kohli is second only to Chris Gayle in terms of most IPL hundreds.
Kohli has been one of the most prolific hitters in the cash-rich IPL despite not being able to lead RCB to an IPL title in 13 years. The 31-year-old has been with Royal Challengers Bangalore since the IPL's inception in 2008. The player has amassed 6067 runs in 191 innings for the team, including 40 half-centuries in addition to the five tons. With these figures, he is currently the IPL's leading run-scorer.
Four of these centuries came in 2016, which is the most ever by any batter in a single season.
Chris Gayle (2011)
Christopher Henry Gayle is regarded as a legend of shorter formats. He didn't fail to leave a mark in the IPL too. In the 2011 season of the league, he scored two centuries which were very crucial for Royal Challengers Bangalore's success.
He joined as a replacement for Dirk Nannes, and the rest is history.
