Base price players in Auction who are having a stellar season

The Indian Premier League shows us many surprises every season. Several players shine brilliantly and justify their value at the Auction. At the same time, some players fail to perform despite the considerable price at the Auction

    Chanuka Rajapaksa Chanuka Rajapaksa

Certain players were bought at the base price in this cash-rich league and became valuable picks for their franchises. Let us look at these players bought at their base price; however, they are having a stellar season now.

    CHANUKA RAJAPAKSA

This season, Chanuka Rajapaksa, an underrated batter from Sri Lanka, caught everyone's eye with his batting in the middle order. After his exceptional batting display in the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka, the left-handed batter got into the limelight. Due to this, he was expected to be sold at a high price in the Auction. However, the only team that showed faith in Rajapaksa was Punjab Kings. They begged him for his base price of just INR 50 Lakhs with the aspect of middle-order batter.

Rajapaksa, too, has justified the franchise's faith in him, turning out as a valuable pick for the franchise. After Jonny Bairstow's arrival, the franchise dropped the left-hander, but he was drafted into the playing eleven after a few games. Chanuka Rajapaksa has put on some exceptional displays with the bat and has undoubtedly proved himself an essential asset in the team's batting line-up. So far, the Sri Lankan has smashed 202 runs in his eight innings with an average of 25.2 and an impressive strike rate of 162.90.

    MUKESH CHOUDHARY

The Chennai Super Kings, considered one of the most successful franchises, have come up with efficient picks at the mega Auction; Mukesh Choudhary, Chennai's prime powerplay bowler, is among the few excellent selections we have seen this season. In the IPL mega auction sold for a base price of 20 lakhs, CSK has roped in this left-handed pacer for Rs 20 lakChoudhary had an astonishing turnaround after a lousy start to the season until he took 3/19 in three overs against Mumbai, including four in the first five matches of IPL 2022. The youngster has clinched 16 wickets in his 11 innings with an outstanding average of 22.19. In the absence of CSK's prime bowler Deepak Chahar, Mukesh has done his job prolifically as a powerplay bowler. With this fantastic performance, Mukesh has become a valuable pick for CSK.

    MOHSIN KHAN

Lucknow Super Giants had a successful auction, as they roped in several talented Indian uncapped players at their base price. For instance, Mohsin Khan was acquired by LSG for his base of INR 20 lakhs. The youngster justified Lucknow's faith in the match against Delhi when he dismissed Rishabh Pant with an absolute beauty in the game against Delhi. From setting Pant up with a barrage of short balls before pushing the length fuller to do him into flummoxing an unsuspecting Liam Livingstone of the Punjab Kings with a slower ball, Mohsin has been ticking all the right boxes. In his six matches till now, the pacer has clinched nine wickets with an impressive economy of 5.17.

    UMESH YADAV

Despite not being among the Auction's famous players, Kolkatta Knight Riders showed faith in the Indian pacer. The franchise picked him up for his base price of 2 cr. Many fans showed disappointment with this pick of KKR. However, the Vidarbha born pacer has shut every critic with his exceptional bowling display this season. So far, Umesh has clinched 15 wickets in 10 outings at an outstanding average of 19.06. He has tended to concede huge runs, but he has kept his economy rate under check this season. Umesh Yadav has picked up early wickets with the new ball, getting his side off to a good start. He is the eighth-highest wicket-taker and will hope to end the season on a high, given that Kolkata is more or less out of the playoffs race.

    DEVON CONWAY

Devon Conway turned out to be one more economical pick by Chennai Super Kings this season as he has done the job as an opener quite prolifically. The Kiwi batter recently performed brilliantly for his national side and was expected to go at a high price in the mega Auction. However, it was surprising that the franchises did not see anything special in Conway, which CSK did! The franchise is known not for not going deep into their pockets at auctions and quietly bought Devon Conway for his base price of Rs 1 crore.

Conway failed to score runs in his debut match and was benched for a few games. When he got an opportunity in the game against DC, Conway hammered 87 runs off 49 balls to help the Yellow Brigade post a match-winning total of 208 runs. It has been a hat-trick of half-centuries for Conway, which started with a well-crafted 55-ball 85* against SRH. Conway has been batting brilliantly as an opener in the past few matches and has become CSK's main asset in the squad. In his five games so far, Conway has scored 231 runs at an average of 57.75, including three fifties.
