Gearing up for the forthcoming edition of ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma and team India will host Australia and South Africa as a part of their dress rehearsals for the much-awaited event
The cricket board confirmed that team India's international home season would commence with a three-match T20I series against Australia on 20th September at Mohali. The other two matches will be on 23rd and 25th September at Nagpur and Hyderabad, respectively.
Further, a three-match T20I series will be played with South Africa from 28th September to 4th October at Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and Indore. After the conclusion of the T20I series, South Africa will also play three ODIs from 6th October to 11th October before heading to Australia for the World Cup, which will commence on 16th October.
In the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue will face teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, followed by home fixtures against Australia and South Africa looks like a nearly perfect dress rehearsal for team India before the T20 World Cup.
The resurgence of the Sri Lankan cricket team?
Ever since the retirement of Sri Lankan stalwarts like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, and Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lankan cricket team has lost its lustre.
The last four years have not been great for their cricketing journey, but like every night has an end, the dawn seems to set for Sri Lanka in limited overs cricket. Though the results are not as immediate, the potential of young cricketers gives a ray of hope for the team shortly.
Sri Lankan players put forward an impactful performance in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League. Spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana played a contributing role in their franchises. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dushmanta Chameera have also been good throughout the season.
The talent pool extends to potential players like Pathum Nissanka, Chameera Karunaratne, Charith Asalanka, and youngster Matheesha Pathirana.
The team's valiant effort and registering historic ODI series win at home land followed by drawing the 2-match test series against Australia and Pakistan. The incoming talent with valuable experience will end Sri Lanka cricket's cold and gloomy days.
Asia Cup is the tournament to announce the comeback of the Sri Lanka team, which lost after their seniors retired. Like every team, this tournament will also be a necessary reality check before the World Cup starts in October.
