All-rounders and their performance in IPL 2022
Since its beginning in 2008, the Indian Premier League has provided cricket fans with a source of entertainment
Many domestic and international athletes show up to wow the crowd with their batting and bowling abilities. While the IPL is more commonly associated with batters, bowlers have also made their mark and delivered some outstanding performances. The IPL all-rounders, though, are the big cash cows. All-rounders provide not only for their team but also for the audience by performing with bat and ball.
However, they are a category that does not always receive the attention it deserves. We frequently discuss a great batter as an opener, middle-order batsman, or finisher. We can also refer to a bowler as a swing bowler, spinner, or death overs bowler. However, the category of an all-rounder needs more recognition.
Only true all-rounders who excel in both disciplines are fully recognised. A batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder, on the other hand, is frequently recognised in their more potent category — batting or bowling. A team should have two solid all-rounders, one good backup all-rounder, and at least one decent all-rounder.
All Rounders who performed well in IPL 2022
Hardik Pandya
The flamboyant, stylish Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, has been doing wonders this IPL. After being named the skipper for the first time of the new IPL team Gujrat Titans, Hardik Pandya has been doing great with both the bat and the ball. He has scored 351 runs with a strike rate of 131.46 with three half-centuries this season. The all-rounder has also been hitting 140kph consistently with his bowling. Apart from this, the all-around skipper has also captained well for his site, because of which Gujrat Titans are the first team to make it to playoffs this season.
Hardik Pandya is expected to re-join the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World cup with his excellent all-around skills. He can prove to be a valuable asset for the Indian team ahead.
Andre Russell
Andre Russell of the West Indies is not only a fantasy T20 player but also one of the most sought-after stars in franchise T20 cricket around the world. Russell has proven time and time again that he is a game-changer with his brilliant batting and bowling exploits.
The Caribbean powerhouse, known for its raw strength, has been single handily leading its team (Kolkata Knight Riders) in this IPL. Up till now, Andre Russell has scored 330 runs in his 13 matches with a blistering strike rate of 182.32. The knight also has 17 wickets to his name and is at number 10 on the list of leading wicket-takers
All-rounders who perished this season
Kieron Pollard:
Polly, a veteran of the Mumbai Indians, has been with the team through thick and thin. He has watched MI win championships and also seen them suffer. Pollard is key to MI’s theme, and the team’s management and owners have great faith in his all-around abilities.
The former Caribbean skipper, Kieron Pollard, who has proved to be a match-winner for Mumbai Indians over the years, hasn’t delivered yet this season.
Kieron Pollard’s offseason is one of the very reason that Mumbai Indians has failed to qualify for playoffs this season. The West-Indian paw has only scored 141 runs with a meager average of 14.4 and strike rate of 107.46. His highest score this season is 25 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Ravindra Jadeja:
One of the best all-rounders in world cricket, Ravindra Jadeja, has failed to perform this season. Jadeja, who was also appointed as the captain to lead Chennai Super Kings, has scored 116 runs in his ten matches with a strike rate of 118.37 and an average of 19.33. The Indian all-rounder hasn’t performed as expected this season.
Ravindra Jadeja was later replaced as the captain by CSK’s all-time skipper MS Dhoni, and currently, many controversies are going on between Ravindra Jadeja and Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings are out from the race to playoffs and are at the 9th position with only four wins.
