Alex Carey grateful for support following Jonny Bairstow stumping
Australia wicket-keeper Alex Carey has expressed gratitude for the support following his controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes test.

Alex Carey has revealed "internal support" from Australia following the "stumping gate" dismissal.

The 31-year-old has been in the news ever since his controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow on the final and decisive day of the second test of the Ashes, which the Aussies won by 43 runs at Lord's.

Carey responded to questions from SkySports ahead of the fourth test in Manchester, where he was asked what his life has been like since the "stumping gate" incident.

"It's been pretty good," said Carey.

"Look, I have obviously had a fair bit of support internally within the group and externally there have been some chants getting around the ground which is always a great atmosphere here at the Ashes, but it's going fine."

Australia test captain Pat Cummins had lept to the defence of his side following the controversial dismissal, stating that his side "did nothing wrong" and are all "comfortable."

Carey admits the negative publicity is unpleasant and is aware it may continue throughout the rest of the Ashes series ahead of the fourth test match in Manchester.

"Yea it's never nice I guess, being on the front page of most papers, but look it is what it is. I enjoy playing amongst this group of players. We have all had a lot of support, I feel the same," added the West End Redbacks star.

"It's just been an exciting Ashes series. I think any chance there is a chance to jump on the back of the Aussies when we are over here then the papers would do that.

"But look, like I said there is lots of support internally and from back home and we can't wait to get back at it."

England will be looking to level the series having fought back from 2-0 down to claim a three-wicket victory in Headingley.
