Indian Premier League 2022 – Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals
The second match of Indian Premier League 2022 happened in Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals; the new team joining the league this season
At the onset the jovial mood of the two captains, their banter and humor were just an insight into the ultimate entertainer that ensued. Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, right after the toss said that the first goal was to win the toss which he’s done. Delhi Capitals chose to bowl first. Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians and Ishan Kishan Innings started with big bang. The pair stood for a partnership of 67 runs before Rohit Sharma got out at 41 off 32 balls, in the 9th over. He was caught by Rovman Powell off a ball from Kuldeep Yadav. It was a much-awaited wicket for Delhi Capitals. Couple overs later Anmolpreet Singh was caught Lalit Yadav bowled by Kuldeep Yadav yet again. Mumbai Indians scoreboard was at 83 in 10.4 overs at that point.
At this point Delhi Capitals seemed to be checking the Mumbai Indian side a bit. Next one to go was Tilak Varma in 15th over after scoring a quick 22 off 15 balls, caught by Prithvi Shaw, bowled by Khaleel Ahmed. The other side of the wicket was being held by Ishan Kishan who was punishing bowlers every now and then. Kiran Pollard and Tim David were not able to do much and scored just 12 and 3 respectively. The scoreboard read 177 at the end of Mumbai Indians’ innings with Ishan Kishan’s stellar contribution of 81 runs off just 48 balls. Ishan Kishan & Daniel Sams were not out after the 20 overs.
Delhi Capitals started their chase of 178 runs by opening their innings with Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert. Tim Seifert was bowled out in 4th over by Murugan Ashwin after a swift knock of 21 runs off 14 balls and Delhi Capitals were at 30 runs. Mandeep Singh was sent back to pavilion, at a duck, just a ball later in the same over caught by Tilak Verma. Just 2 balls later in the 5th over Rishabh Pant was caught by Tim David, bowled by Tymal Mills. Delhi Capitals seems to be crumbling now but Lalit Yadav brought some stability to the innings for next few overs. Prithvi Shaw was the next to return to pavilion in 10th over after a decent knock off 38 runs, caught by Ishan Kishan; bowled by Basil Thampi. Scoreboard was at 72 runs but Delhi Capitals’ woes seem far from over as the next wicket of Rovman Powell fell a ball later for a duck; yet again in the same over. Shardul Thakur and Lalit Yadav took the scoreboard to 104 before Shardul Thakur was caught by Rohit Sharma, bowled by Basil Thampi in the 14th over. The pair of Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel held ground after that scoring 48 and 38 runs respectively and led their team to an unseeming victory with 10 balls and 4 wickets to spare. They turned the tide of the match when a victory was looking almost impossible.
The Delhi Capitals side has won their first match and have announced their arrival in bold letters after defeating Mumbai Indians, a veteran team of Indian Premier League. The journey of Delhi Capitals squad led by Rishabh Pant will be an interesting one to follow in upcoming matches in the league.
