India tour of England: India Vs Derbyshire Deepak Hooda continues to shine
Continuing their form from the Ireland tour, the Indian team led by Dinesh Karthik easily won the first warm-up match against Derbyshire. India was scheduled to play two warm-up games ahead of the limited-overs series against England
While the Indian cricket team led by Jasprit Bumrah did well on day 1 of the rescheduled test against England, the young Indian team won the first warm-up match against Derbyshire.
Arshdeep Singh-Umran Malik starred with the ball
Dinesh Karthik opted to field after winning the toss. The hosts posted 150 in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Many players benched in the last series got the chance here to perform. Indian youngsters Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik bowled brilliantly and picked two wickets each. Axar Patel and Venkatesh Iyer bowled economically, picking one wicket each. Arshdeep Singh picked two crucial breakthroughs giving wickets and, thus, showcased his potential to the selectors.
Deepak Hooda-Suryakumar Yadav guided the team to an easy chase
Derbyshire failed to give a fight to India during the chase. India chased the target comfortably in just 16.4 overs, losing three wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad went early to the pavilion in the first over for just three runs giving a catch towards the long-on. Deepak Hooda again continued his excellent form. He first made a 51-run partnership with Sanju Samson before the latter was dismissed and then continued to stitch another 78-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav. Deepak Hooda was the top scorer of the match with his phenomenal innings of 59 off just 37 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Deepak Hooda being in his dream form, is definitely in contention for a spot in the T20I world cup 2022. His consistency and power-hitting capacity added outstanding balance to the Indian T20I side. Suryakumar Yadav finished the game for India with an unbeaten 36 off 22 strike rate of 163, which included four fours and 1 six.
The County Club, Northampton, will host the second warm-up match on Sunday. The warm-up matches have given young Indian cricketers exposure to English pitches and conditions before the limited-overs series against England. The three-match T20 series against England will start on July 7.
