3 best combinations working for Gujarat Titans
Newcomers to the season, Gujarat Titans are off to a flawless start in their Indian Premier League (IPL) maiden season.
The Ahmedabad-based franchise has won all three of its IPL 2022 games against the Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings. Gujarat Titans, led by skipper Hardik Pandya, defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in their first match, Capitals by 14 runs in their second match, and Punjab Kings by six wickets.
Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra are among the coaching staff at Gujarat Titans; there are several other well-known personalities to aid the team off the field. Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Lockie Ferguson are the big names among the players and have been performing up to their expectations. With multiple heavyweights in the event, the Gujarat Titans are putting up a good fight, and if they continue with such performance, they will be able to make up till the playoffs.
Three good things happening for Gujarat Titans:
A team full of match winners
After the top-order struggled in their first encounter against Lucknow Super Giants, veteran batters like Hardik Pandya (33 off 20 balls), David Miller (30 off 21 balls), and Rahul Tewatia (40 off 24 balls) made crucial contributions as the Gujarat Titans successfully chased down the 159-run mark with two balls remaining.
The Titans have an experienced batting lineup that comes helpful irrespective of whether they have to post a total or chase it. In GT’s second match of the season, against the Delhi Capitals, Shubman Gill stood up and delivered a fantastic knock. Hardik Pandya, David Miller, and Rahul Tewatia backed him up as they posted a competitive total of 171.
The third match again saw a match-winning inning by Shubhman Gill, who scored 96 runs off just 59 balls. The class shown by him in that inning was flawless. Further, the show-stealing finishing touch was given by Rahul Tewatia to score two sixes off the last two balls when they needed 12 runs.
Hardik Pandya’s excellent all-round performance
During Gujarat’s last three matches, Hardik has made wise decisions as captain. For example, the skipper delayed the introduction of his key weapon Rashid Khan, saving at least two or three overs of him for the slog overs. Similarly, Hardik took the new ball for his franchise in the most recent match, and his decision paid off. The right-arm pacer scalped Tim Seifert of New Zealand. Apart from his captaincy, Hardik has been a reliable batsman and bowler, scoring 64 runs so far. Compared to his stint with the Mumbai Indians, the 28-year-old has moved up the batting order.
It is the first time Hardik Pandya is donning the skipper’s hat, and so far, he has done an incredible job for the new franchise.
Depth in Bowling
The Titans have a potent bowling attack, with Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, and Lockie Ferguson among their ranks. All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia, among others, are also quite helpful. Hardik Pandya has been delivering consistently with the ball, too, and his pace has increased a lot compared to previous seasons. It’s worth noting that the GT Bowlers were instrumental in the franchise’s last two victories. As a result, in the first two matches of Gujarat Titans, Mohammad Shami and Lockie Ferguson have been selected Player of the Match, respectively.
They are looking like a formidable team, and it will be a big challenge for any other franchise to defeat them as they are clearly showing their intent and not looking back.
