India's first Thomas Cup victory was indirectly orchestrated by Gopichand who has honed the system that has birthed world champion shuttlers. The former All-England champion is now aiming to convert India into the most powerful badminton nation in the world. The expertise of the Indian team is slowly becoming a matter of concern for other nations. The coach has disclosed the three main reasons why India's win is no less than a superpower in badminton now!

    Faith in Gopi's vision

Gopichand's students have trusted him with their future in sports. Each one of them had almost spent 10-12 years at his academy besides which the work ethic exhibited by the players has left a remarkable impact. Gopichand's players take a lot of pride in playing for the country. Since Srikanth missed out on the Olympic medal and other wins, he needed to redeem himself. Prannoy's gameplay, on the other hand, was questioned on a daily basis, and Satwik-Chirag was overshadowed by the singles players. Each one of them had a sense of purpose and a target to achieve which made it easier for them to focus.

Unlimited exposure and efficient training facilities

Due to unflinching support from the government, the top players are exposed to multiple tournaments and trained in top-notch facilities which have played an important role in the development of the sport. There is a lot of untapped potential in the country waiting to be unleashed. Due to Covid-19, there were no junior-level events that deprived youngsters of the opportunities to boost their careers. Luckily, Gopichand and his team are now responsible for streamlining the coaching and tournament structure so that their efforts bear fruit.

Top Indian players motivating youngsters to take up the sport

Players like Saina, Sindhu, Srikanth, Kashyap or the doubles teams are known for popularizing the sport in the country and a lot of youngsters have derived inspiration from them. Their charisma is visible, not only during their individual matches but also when team efforts are needed. Before Gopichand's entry, Indian badminton had limited scope for its players. He saw the possibility of other players like him achieving international success with the right kind of training.

After he finished his career as an athlete, he decided to find such players and help them leave an impact on the international scene. His decision has only brought unlimited glory to India and now, Gopichand doesn't shy away from calling India a badminton powerhouse like China, Indonesia and Denmark. However, he realises that a lot of work still needs to be done. They could work on expanding the depth and structure of the training regime which could further uplift talented Indian youngsters.
