PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy to lead Indian challenge in Malaysia Open Super 750 tournament
Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu, Satwik Chirag, and Saina Nehwal will be looking forward to returning to their winning days at the Malaysia Open Super 750, set kick-off from June 28
PV Sindhu will be aiming to return to her winning days following her first-round exit at the Indonesian Open on June 14. HS Pranoy will lead the charge in the men's category at the event in Kaula Lumpur on Tuesday.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu was knocked out of the Indonesia Open in the Super 1000 in the opening round by He Bing Jiao of China earlier this month. PV Sindhu will have to regain her composure and confidence in the opening round of the Malaysia Open against outstanding Thai shuttler Pornpawee Chochuwong to move ahead. The 26-year-old Indian shuttler has a win-loss record of 5-3 against the Thai World No. 10, with PV Sindhu losing three times within their last five faceoffs. If PV Sindhu outlasts Pornpawee Chochuwong and has a consistent run, she might get the chance to lock horns with Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei of China in a much-awaited clash down the line.
In the men's category, HS Pranoy will be leading the charge for India's title bid. He played a crucial role in India's Thomas Cup victory and then advanced to the semifinals of Jakarta with some excellent performances. He was knocked out of the Indonesia Open after a bout of poor performance due to unforced errors.
HS Pranoy will face Malaysian shuttler Daren Liew in the opening round of the Malaysia Open. He will be aiming to give his top performance in Indonesia to end his five-year-long title drought finally.
Olympics Bronze medal winner Saina Nehwal is in the same half of the draw as PV Sindhu. She will face Iris Wang of the United States in the tournament's first round. The 32-year-old Indian veteran withdrew from the Indonesia Open to manage the workload. She will be looking forward to putting forth a strong show against Iris Wang.
Doubles World No. 8 pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will also mark their returns in Malaysia after missing the previous tournaments due to medical issues. They will play the opening round against Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee of Malaysia.
