Viktor Axelsen, the Danish star, finished ahead of Lakshya Sen in the finals. Lakshya had defeated Viktor on their way to the All England Championships 2022 quarter-finals.
Runner Up in Open
Lakshya Sen of India came as a runner-up in the finale, falling by 10-21 and then 15-21 to Viktor Axelsen of Denmark. Lakshya Sen fell somewhat on the verge of historic glory, making many mistakes to lose in the landslide finals to former world champion Viktor Axelsen.
He was the sixth Indian to make it to the final of the famous sport, following Prakash Nath (1947), Prakash Padukone (1980, 1981), Pullela Gopichand (2001), and Saina Nehwal (2015). Lakshya Sen, 20, defeated the incumbent winner in a thrilling 21-13, 12-21, and 21-19 victory to earn a place in the final of the All England championship.
Axelsen had won his opening match over gold medalist Lakshya Sen a week earlier on the way to his final performance at the German Open, but he could not even keep it up on Sunday, March 22, 2022. His immensely talented opponent answered back, winning his sixth match against the Indian superstar, Lakshya Sen.
Lakshya Sen said that there was a huge amount of pressure leading up to this game, but once he was in the arena, it felt like any other contest. During the match, he had a key encounter, which made him believe it.
Viktor Axelsen sprinted to a 6-0 lead thanks to some precise row smashing, while Lakshya Sen was unable to launch attacks and quickly fell behind. Lakshya Sen disrupted the pattern of the game with nothing but an energetic recovery of service. He didn't even generate any opening's as Viktor Axelsen controlled him with fast hits.
A series of sloppy mistakes by Viktor Axelsen handed Lakshya Sen two or more points, and the Indian fired a cross-court smash to make it 5-13, a gap which proved too huge to bridge as the Dane possessed 11 game-point opportunities.
When the sides were changed, Lakshya put more effort into it and engaged Viktor Sen in a thrilling match. He did not manage to finish off Viktor Axelsen, and he lost 4-2 in the final minutes. He made more effort to reduce the gap to 5-6.
Viktor Sen finally beat Lakshya Sen, who had put in a good performance in the All England championship. With the thrilling encounter, he had etched India Badminton's name in the annals of history.
Prakash has faith in Sen
Prakash Padukone said, “Such has never been an easy duty, particularly for a teenager as Lakshya. He has formally proclaimed his debut on the international arena, but still the real task awaits him ahead. Through personal experience, I must confidently state that achieving the greatest level is challenging, but maintaining that position becomes even more incredibly hard, since it necessitates a great deal more effort and mental strength. Lakshya, on the other hand, possesses many of the qualities necessary to become a medal challenger in the next several years."
