Badminton Indonesia Open: Viktor Axelsen beats Lee Zii Jia in the match of the year
Dane Viktor Axelsen beat Lee Zii Jia in the semi-finals yesterday in Jakarta, Indonesia. National men's singles took place in Istora Senayan Stadium when Lee Zii Jia lost 21-19, 11-21, 21-23 to Axelsen
Lee Zii Jia, in a press interview, said that he tried his best, but it was hard to beat Axelsen, given his brilliant prowess. He said, "I have met Axelsen many times. We know each other's game. In the second set, my focus blurred. I need more work out with the team."
Lee Zii Jia said that he had to look after his coordination since he has been playing many tournaments. Given the Malaysia Tournament is to begin on June 28, Lee is cautious about not suffering any injuries before the game.
"I put all my focus on the match today, but there are still some minor points that I need to polish up. Overall, I played well here in Indonesia, one quarter-final (Indonesia Masters) and one semi-final. Now, I have three back-to-back tournaments to look ahead to," added Zii Jia.
Axelsen was highly excited to win the game. He couldn't contain his excitement and his emotion after the final set. When asked about the game and his win, Axelsen said, "I was emotional today. This is a sport, and I want this (win) so much. My feelings are obvious. Today was a really fun game. It was really hard to control, but I'm proud of how I came back."
