French Open: Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy seal a place in the championship match
The Indian pairing of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy secured a comfortable straight-set victory over Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won of South Korea in a semifinal clash of the French Open 2022 BWF Super 750 at Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris
The seventh-seeded India duo is looking to win their second BWF World Tour-level title for the season, having lifted the trophy at the Super 500 India Open earlier this year.
The world's no. 8, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, began the match aggressively and maintained their grip on the game's flow.
Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won tried to drag the Indian duo into longer rallies. Still, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy controlled the front court area to thwart their plans and secured a 21-18, 21-14 victory after 45 minutes of play to book a championship match berth.
Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will lock horns with the winner of the semifinal clash between Ben Lane and Sean Vendy of the United Kingdom and Yang Po-Han and Lu Ching-Yao of Taiwan.
In the women's singles event, Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marin of Spain secured a straight-set victory over reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in a semifinal clash of the French Open on October 29.
The 29-year-old Spanish shuttler needed 47 minutes to defeat Akane Yamaguchi 21-14, 21-18 to book a spot in the championship match.
Carolina Marin is looking to clinch the 35th title of her career after a long break due to an ACL injury. She has advanced to the championship match of a BWF World Tour Super 750 for the first time since her previous final at the Denmark Open in October 2020.
Former world's no. 1 Carolina Marin will lock horns with He Bingjiao of China for the women's singles title at the French Open in the championship clash on October 30.
The world no. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark also booked a championship match berth at the French Open after beating 21-12, 21-8 Kodai Naraoka of Japan.
