    PV Sindhu has recently won the women's singles gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She later revealed that she played the final against Michelle Li of Canada while suffering from an injury.

    PV Sindhu announced the decision to withdraw from the tournament on Twitter. She said, "Unfortunately, I have to pull out of the World Championships. I felt pain; There was an injury scare at the quarter-finals of the CWG, but with the help of my coach, physio and trainer, I decided to push as far as I could."

    The 27-year-old Hyderabad native immediately got herself checked after returning to Hyderabad. An MRI scan revealed a stress factor on her left foot, due to which she will have to stay off court for a few weeks.

    PV Sindhu has a fantastic record at the BadmintonWorld Championships, having won one goal, two silvers and one bronze at the event. In addition to winning the singles gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, she spearheaded India's mixed team squad that won the silver medal.

    BWF World Championship will take place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, from 22 to 28 August.

    Indian badminton team promises to win gold in Paris

    The Indian badminton squad clinched three gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The strong performance of the Indian contingent has made them strong contenders for the badminton medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

    India has won three Olympic medals in Badminton, with Saina Nehwal winning the Bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and PV Sindhu winning silver in Rio de Janerio and a bronze in Tokyo.

    The competition at the Olympics is much more intense than the Commonwealth Games due to the participation of top badminton playing nations such as China, Indonesia, Japan, Italy and South Korea.

    After returning from Birmingham, PV Sindhu said, "The ultimate goal is Paris Olympics in 2024."
