Badminton News: PV Sindhu withdraws from BWF World Tour Finals and targets return at Malaysia Open
PV Sindhu was included among the eight shortlisted players to participate in the Badminton World Tour Finals by the International Badminton Federation. However, PV Sindhu has decided not to participate in the season-ending tournament
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu announced that she would not participate in the BWF World Tour Finals on November 23. However, the 27-year-old Hyderabad native was included in the player's docket.
She was included in the list after winning the Syed Modi International, the Swiss Open, Singapore Open, and the Commonwealth Games singles gold medal.
After the announcement, PV Sindhu said, "I am not going to take part in World Finals as I am yet to recover fully from the injury. I have informed the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and next week there is going to be another release. My name will not be there."
The 2019 World Championship gold medallist PV Sindhu is currently recovering after suffering from a stress fracture in her left ankle at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
PV Sindhu is also undergoing light training with coach Park Tae-Sang at the Suchitra Badminton Academy in Hyderabad. The training sessions are focused on helping her gain the feel of the court alongside occasional smashes.
The Indian ace is aiming to make her return to the tennis court at the Malaysian Open in January 2023. PV Sindhu said, "I have started training but I am yet to attain my 100 per cent match fitness. I am taking rest and it is not easy to come back after a break and then an injury."
